Avenue Winston Churchill 29

These two houses standing side-by-side are attributed to the same architect. However, he is said to have created the facades alone, with the interiors having been built by the contractor.

FACADE

The building at no. 29 is dated 1905, according to the sgraffito on the bay window, and consists entirely of white glazed brick embellished with bands of blue stone. The door is set in a blue stone surround remarkably sculpted into thick shapes that are nevertheless Art Nouveau in style. The door itself, which is made of wood, also displays Art Nouveau lines and its glass pane is decorated with a discreet intertwining pattern of wrought iron. The floral sgraffiti have been carefully restored, notably using gold leaf.

As you pass, take a look at no. 31, which is built entirely of stone. It was designed by the same architect, but in a much more traditional manner. Dated 1907, only the ironwork of its bow window is Art Nouveau in style.
