This building is the “sister” of the house located at no. 55, rue Philippe Le Bon, which was built for the same owner on the other side of an L-shaped plot.
FACADE
Note the expressive and organic sculpting of the blue stone that frames the door and its fanlight, as well as the cellar and ground floor windows. This house, which is a synthesis of Van Waesberghe’s architecture, is characterized by the richness of its details: sculpted stone, woodwork and alternating bands of red and grey bricks. Art Nouveau is also reflected in the two sgraffiti decorations located below the cornices. Their floral theme is repeated in the stained glass of the fanlights and in the ironwork. The three dormers that top the ensemble lend the façade distinct panache.
INTERIOR
The stained glass of the fanlight, which can be seen from the street but which is visible from the inside in the light of day, resembles a stylised orchid. The door separating the entrance from the staircase features lovely geometric wooden cut-outs and its fanlight is decorated with stained glass depicting water lilies. Attractive geometric cement tiles complement the entrance area.
