Alphonse Boelens was admitted to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels in 1896 and at the same time he was also working as a draughtsman in the studio of his older brother, the architect Victor Boelens, with whom he collaborated on several houses. He was hired as a municipal architect in Ixelles and remained there until the end of his career. Alongside this work, he designed several buildings in the municipalities of Forest, Uccle and Saint-Gilles, including his own home at 177 Rue des Carmelites and the villa at 103 Avenue Besme, both of them in the Art Nouveau style.
