Arthur Nelissen

1879 — 1922
Arthur Nelissen's parents, originally from the Netherlands, moved to Anderlecht in 1879 to run a café. Nelissen enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in 1892, embarking on courses in line drawing and industrial design the following year. After leaving the Academy, he went on to study surveying. He chose to acquire Belgian nationality in 1913.
Despite dying at the age of just 43, Nelissen designed many houses in a number of Brussels municipalities, including the celebrated No. 5 Avenue du Mont-Kemmel.
Nelissen was one of many Dutch artists who left their mark on Belgian Art Nouveau, including, most notably, Albert Roosenboom.
