After studying at the Saint-Luc school in Ghent and following his marriage to Mathilde de Fabribeckers (a young aristocrat whose name he borrowed), de Fabribeckers finally settled in Brussels. This was after he had won first prize in a façade designing competition in Ixelles (held in 1899). After 1910, he gradually abandoned Art Nouveau and returned to a more conventional style. He is also known for helping to rebuild several towns in the Yser region that were destroyed during the Great War.
