Georges Hobé

1854 — 1936
The son of a cabinetmaker, Hobé started out as a designer of interiors and furniture. He quickly became one of the most important creators of his time; indeed, he was one of the few pioneers of Art Nouveau. However, he is still not well known, as his constructions are often characterised by such extreme simplicity that they have not always been judged at their true value. It was after a trip to England that he discovered cottages and their vernacular quality, rationality and perfect integration into the landscape. These would continue to provide him with inspiration.
