Building
This house was designed in two phases; Victor Horta built its first two floors in 1906, while Adrien Blomme added the top floor in 1927. The client who commissioned Horta to create this residence was a Brussels-based senator and lawyer, Emile Vinck.
Note the balcony and the railing, which still attest to the style of Victor Horta. He created a most harmonious façade for this property.
Surprisingly, the interiors retain much more evidence of Horta’s work than the façade would suggest. The proportions and the light show that Horta remained a master of spatial layout.
The off-axis front door allowed room on the ground floor for a large office on the left hand side and an anteroom on the right. A beautiful glass roof set above the central hall floods the entire house with abundant light.
The service corridor runs along the party wall and can be accessed without having to go through the entrance hall door. Vinck could therefore deal with his cases while the servants attended to their household duties, without having to walk through the centre of the house.
